On Friday, when we heard the news of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut we tuned in immediately. Like most parents, we stopped everything in shock to absorb the reality that children, like our own young kids, were victims in this terrible tragedy.
Instantly, all parents were all handed a major dose of perspective. Particularly poignant perspective in the midst of creating the "perfect" holiday season for our kids. Perfect now, in the wake of Newtown, simply means having our children with us. Being able to hug them on demand, call their name and have them answer and be able to celebrate Christmas with them.
Those 20 beautiful children could have been momstown children. All 6 or 7 years old, still newcomers to the big school, just innocent and sweet. The 20 children lost are all someone's baby.
The news of this tragedy has hit parents hard around the globe. The circumstances simply incomprehensible and while most of us are uninvolved, it seems impossible not to be personally affected by the tragedy.

This holiday season, may parents everywhere embrace our children with more love, more patience and more enthusiasm than we have ever before. We are the lucky ones. We send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims and all families in Newtown as they mourn together and find their path again.
